Things That Make Komodo Bites So Deadly

Komodo is a rare animal of native Indonesia whose status is protected. Therefore, if tourists want to see it directly then he must go to the zoo or go to the original habitat of dragons in East Nusa Tenggara.

It's just that tourists are warned to be careful because the dragons include wild animals. In the wild, the bite of dragons can certainly lead to fatal to its prey.

What causes these Komodo dragons so dangerous? Researchers see that in the body of the dragon itself does not actually have a toxin-producing gland like that of snakes or other venomous animals.

It's just in the mouth of dragons, especially in saliva, can be stored more than 50 types of harmful bacteria pathogens. These bacteria appear to be intentionally preserved by the giant lizard so that slight injuries can cause severe infections.

Once biting, a dragon will slowly follow its prey which in about 24 hours will experience sepsis or poisoning blood infection to death. Komodo then casually will begin to devour the carcass of the prey.

In the case of a tourist who was bitten by dragons his legs were reportedly torn and were being treated in a hospital. Possible antibiotic drugs needed to fight the bacteria from the Komodo dragons.

Related to this, researchers from George Mason University once said the possibility of dragons secret drug new antibiotics. This is because even in the mouth of komodo dragons stored many bacteria, he himself never had problems because of it.

"Komodo dragons are the largest living lizard species and top predators in the environment, they are able to withstand a number of pathogenic bacteria that live in their saliva and can heal when wounded after fighting with other Komodo dragons, reflecting the strength of their immune system," the researchers wrote Proteomo Research.
